Eileen Allender was born September 4, 1923, in Northampton, England, the only child of Benjamin Dizraili and Emily Elizabeth Anthistle Cory. She was raised in Northampton where she received her education. After her schooling she was employed in a shoe factory until she was 19. For two years, during World War II, she worked at a munitions factory before returning to the shoe factory. It was in 1943, during World War II at a 14th Century pub, “The Checkers Inn”, that Eileen met a member of the 8th United Air Force, Charles “Bud” Allender. In 1947, two long years after the war’s end, Eileen came to America and to Vail, Iowa. Eileen and Bud were united in marriage June 22, 1947, two weeks after her arrival by Father Robert O’Reilly, Bud’s cousin, at St. Ann’s Rectory in Vail. They made their home in Vail and Eileen was employed at the Denison Country Club, Safeway in Denison, Marvin’s Provisions in Vail for seventeen years, and cleaned homes before retiring. In her spare time Eileen enjoyed gardening, flowers and golfing. Some of her proudest moments were becoming an American Citizen and making a “hole in one” at the Denison Country Club old hole #4. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, an officer of the Altar Society when the current St. Ann Church was built, and a Lector reading the Christmas Story for many years at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Other memberships she enjoyed were the American Legion Auxiliary and the Denison Country Club. For the past several years, with the assistance of family and friends, Eileen lovingly cared for her husband at their home in Vail. When her health failed, she and Bud moved to the Denison Care Center, Denison, Iowa, on October 22, 2015, where her death occurred late Friday, October 30, 2015. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 92 years, 1 month and 26 days. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Emily Cory. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles “Bud” Allender of Vail currently residing at the Denison Care Center, sister-in-law Mary Jackson of Vail, other relatives and friends. In accordance with Eileen’s wishes her body was donated the Nebraska Anatomical Board in Omaha, Nebraska for medical research and no services are planned at this time.
