Eileen Elenor Pauley, the daughter of Anthony and Elenor (Thraen) Schleimer, was born on a farm in Panama on April 29, 1943. She attended country school and St. Mary’s High School in Panama, graduating with the class of 1960. After high school, Eileen was employed at the A.S.C.S. office in Harlan and also worked at Mickel’s Café in Harlan. On June 19, 1965 Eileen married Kenneth Pauley at St. Mary’s Church in Panama. The two made Panama their home. To this union, four sons were born; Darren, Kerry, Brad, and Jason. In 1979, Eileen graduated from Stewart School of Cosmetology in Council Bluffs. She owned and operated “The Style Shack” in her home in Panama.
Eileen was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Panama being active in the church and in the community. She served as Secretary of the Community Club, was a Den Mother for the Cubs Scouts when her boys were younger, she was active in the Panama Athletic Association, and was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Legion Post. Eileen was an avid card player, being a part of the “Lively 20s” card club. She liked to sew, do crafts, play board games, and she collected bells from around the world. She also loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed being out and about. She was a people person. Eileen loved having conversations with people as well as helping them. She had a very contagious smile, laugh, and sense of humor. Eileen was a straight forward and honest person with her family and her friends as she didn’t like to beat around the bush.
Eileen passed away early Saturday, July 20, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, attaining the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 21 days. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers Charles and Raymond Schleimer. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years Kenneth Pauley of Panama; her children Darren Pauley of Denison; Kerry Pauley of Panama; Brad Pauley and his wife Zamira of Jacksonville, FL; and Jason Pauley and his wife Annie of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Rau of Portsmouth and Marilyn Alfers of Neola; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
