Elaine Schroder

Elaine June (Jacobsen) Schroder was born on February 6, 1930, in rural Shelby County near Jacksonville, Iowa to Carl and Anita (Woltmann) Jacobsen. Elaine had two siblings: Glen and Lois. In the early years, the family lived in Jacksonville, Iowa. The family moved from Jacksonville to the Corley area when Elaine was 15. Elaine attended country schools, was a shy child and enjoyed the small school atmosphere and rural living.
After graduation, Elaine, took on house cleaning jobs and helped her parents on the farm. She would end up meeting the neighbor's son, Loren Charles Schroder, who lived over the hill on the next farm and the two would be united in marriage on January 10, 1954, at the Presbyterian Church in Avoca, Iowa. Loren and Elaine would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on the day she died. The couple settled on a farm, which remains their current residence southeast of Minden, Iowa. To this union they had 4 children: Diane, Suzanne, Gayle and Roger. Elaine worked hard assisting on the farm and raising their children. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, caring for her cats, gardening and baking. She did a ton of canning from her garden produce, and everyone loved her cooking. Elaine and Loren loved to go dancing. They would take the family to Corley to the dances on Saturday nights. Years later they got into Western Country dancing and went to different dances around the area. Elaine helped at Carsten Farm Days for many years. She was in charge of contacting the musicians and performers. She also worked at the check-in standing taking information for the displays.
On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, Elaine passed away at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of 92 years, 11 months and 4 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Anita, and siblings Glen and Lois.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Loren Schroder of Avoca, Iowa; children Diane (Pete) Perales of Omaha, Nebraska; Suzanne (Russ) Leslie of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Gayle Schroder (Dee Wicks) of Minden, Iowa; Roger (Brenda) Schroder of Minden, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
