Elaine Sheldon
April 2, 1927 — March 5, 2015
Elaine Mary Sheldon was born on April 2, 1927 to Joseph and Gabrielle (Koesters) Weis in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling as well as attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling.
On January 31, 1967, Elaine was united in marriage to Lawrence Sheldon in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was serving in the United States Army. They became parents to one daughter, Patty.
Elaine enjoyed being a housewife, gardening, tending to her flowers, and visit with friends. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids and often remarked how great they all turned out. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to his home state of Wyoming.
She remained in her home after her husband’s death on December 20, 2014 until a fall caused her to be admitted to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She died there on Thursday, March 5, 2015 having attained the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months, and three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, sisters: Marie McGill, Betty Pauley, Norma Goetz, and Grace Madden, and brother Gene Weis.
She is survived by her daughter Patty and her husband Tom Muenchrath of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Bud Weis of Harlan, Iowa, Bob Weis and his wife Ruth of Defiance, Iowa, Aggie Gary of Richmond, Virginia, Alice Alexander of Omaha, Nebraska, Ron Weis and his wife Rita of Omaha, Joe Weis and his wife Gladys of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Gary Weis and his wife Joanne of Omaha; sisters-in-law Betty Sheldon of Douglas, Wyoming, Dorothy and her husband Frank Barna of Sun City, Arizona, and Poly Shaffer of Douglas, Wyoming; several nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
