Eleanor Wiese McKinny Hodgson, the oldest of three sisters, was born on December 23, 1921 to Harry and Lena (Gustafsen) Wiese in Avoca, Iowa. She attended country school Knox No. 6 and graduated from Avoca High School with the Class of 1940. She became a school teacher. Eleanor married Lawrence Duain McKinny of Hancock, son of Glen and Edith (Fletcher) McKinny on March 25, 1943.



While Duain served in the Army overseas, Eleanor taught at Knox No. 6. Duain was wounded and returned stateside. Eleanor joined him in Texas until he was discharged in 1946. They began farming with her father that same year. They had three daughters: Ardith Irene, Carol Louise, and Joyce Nadine.



In November of 1955, Duain and Eleanor moved their family to Longview, Washington. All went well until 1961 when Duain became ill. He passed away on October 23, 1965 at the age of forty-nine. He was buried in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.



Eleanor lived in her home for forty years and was an active member of the Longview Community Church. She was also involved in PTA, Girl Scouts, Homemakers Club, and bible studies. She enjoyed collecting dishes, sewing, quilting, cooking, and being with family and friends. Eleanor married Gordon L. Hodgson of Longview, Washington on February 9, 1968. They enjoyed a fun life of travel and spending time with family. Gordon died on July 5, 1988.



Eleanor moved into a retirement home in Longview in 1997 and was subsequently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. The family moved her to Oregon in 1999. She passed away on October 10, 2014 in Clackamas, Oregon, having attained the age of ninety-two years, nine months, and seventeen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duain, husband Gordon, daughter Ardith Kiely, son-in-law Joe Kiely, stepson Gordon Hodgson, Jr., and two grandsons.



She is survived by her daughters Carol and her husband James Gray of Longview, Washington and Joyce and her husband Scott Paul of Bend, Oregon; step-daughters Kathy and her husband Ed Bifseff of Tacoma, Washington and Kay and her husband Tom Archer of Longview, Washington; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters Arlene Sievers of Avoca, Iowa and Clara Bledsoe of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
