Eleonora N. Andersen was born in Denver, Colorado, April 27, 1922, the daughter of Hans and Dagmar Runge Nicolaisen. She was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism July 16, 1922, at the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, Colorado, and confirmed in her Christian Faith April 4, 1937, at the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Eleonora grew to womanhood on a farm southeast of Exira and graduated from the Exira High School with the class of 1940. She furthered her education taking summer classes at Buena Vista for seven summers and Colorado State University for one summer.Eleonora began her teaching career at the Township #5 Rural School in Audubon where she spent five years. She then taught 3rd grade in Guttenberg, Iowa, Jr. High Science in Ogden, Iowa, and Remedial Reading in Audubon.On July 8, 1951, Eleonora was united in marriage with Emmert Martin Andersen in Denver, Colorado. They made their home in Audubon where Eleonora was a busy homemaker, lovingly caring for her family. In later years she was a sales assistant for her husband’s business, Hillcrest Forge. In 1981, they moved to Milford, Iowa, where they resided until 2013 when they moved to Denison, Iowa. Emmert and Eleonora enjoyed spending many of the winter months in Texas.Hobbies and interests that occupied her leisure time included: sewing, cooking, baking, reading, especially cookbooks, often making hand written notations next to favorite recipes to try, and spending time with family.She was currently a member of the Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa, where she was active in their Ladies Circle. While residing in Audubon she was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where she was a Circle Member and served on their Flower Committee.Emmert died March 13, 2015, and Eleonora remained at Silveridge in Denison until moving to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in October of 2015.Eleonora died at Eventide early Wednesday morning, September 7, 2016. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 94 years, 4 months and 10 days.Those preceding Eleonora in death include her father, Hans Nicolaisen, mother and step-father Chris and Dagmar Clausen; two brothers: Frederick Nicolaisen and Thomas Nicolaisen; and one son-in-law: Paul Hansen.Survivors remaining to cherish her memory include four children: Linda Hansen and Connie (Ken) Quirk, all of Brookings, South Dakota, Brian (Francine) Andersen of Audubon, Iowa, and Alice (Tim) Baughman of Denison, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers: Robert (Wilma) Nicolaisen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Lawrence (Nina) Clausen of Exira, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
