Elnora J. Miller was born at Dunlap, Iowa, March 17, 1924, the daughter of Alva and Dorothy Neville Treft. She was raised on the farm there and during her teenage years was employed as a live-in housekeeper for two area families. She received her early education in the rural schools and completed her high school degree as an adult in 1971. On November 30, 1942, Elnora was united in marriage with Myron L. Miller at Papillion, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with seven children: Jimmy, Mike, Jeannine, Walter, Hazel, Merle and Kyle. They made their home at Old Kiron for three years before moving to Myron’s birthplace in Sac County where they lived and farmed until retiring to Kiron in 1975. In addition to being a busy homemaker and farmwife, Elnora was employed through the years as a nurses’ aide at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Twilight Acres in Wall Lake and the Colonial Manor in Odebolt and was an Avon representative in the area. Elnora lovingly cared for her husband Myron at home throughout his long illness. Myron died March 15, 1989, and Elnora remained in their home until moving to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in June of 2010. In earlier years she attended First Baptist Church in Kiron and in her spare time enjoyed crocheting, gardening and craft shows. Elnora died Monday evening, February 7, 2011 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 86 years, 10 months and 20 days. Including her parents and husband, Elnora was also preceded in death by two brothers: Harold and Harvey Treft; and three sisters: Elsie Wangler; Goldie Mellerup and Betty Ferguson. Those remaining to cherish her memory include seven children: Jimmy (Marilyn) Miller of St. Louis, Missouri; Mike Miller of Ute, Iowa; Jeannine Thompson of Manhattan, Kansas; Walter (Janie) Miller of Kiron, Iowa; Hazel (David) Peterson of Zearing, Iowa; Merle (Deb) Miller of Odebolt, Iowa and Kyle (Vicki) Miller of Kiron, Iowa, seventeen grandchildren: twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one brother: Henry (Arlene) Treft of Dakota City, Nebraska; one sister: Peggy (Maurice) Mellerup of Prairie Home, Missouri, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Kiron, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Kaihoi officiating. Mrs. John W. Larson served as pianist providing accompaniment for the congregational hymns of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Nearer My God to Thee”. Honorary pallbearers were Dave Peterson, Chance Klaus, Heath Winsor, Dalton Miller, Gary Peterson and Josh Brown. Those serving as pallbearers included Cory Miller, Steve Miller, Jay Miller, Jimmie Harms, Scott Thompson and Shad Corbin. Interment was at Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Following the interment all were invited to return to the church and join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the First Baptist Social Committee.
