Elsie Marie Haring was born June 6, 1925, in Wildwood, New Jersey, the daughter of LeRoy and Elsie Marie Davis Smith. When she was 16 years of age the family moved to Philadelphia where she was graduated from Olney High School with the class of 1943. Following her schooling she was employed in the accounting field in Philadelphia. Prior to moving to Dow City, Iowa, in 1998, Elsie had resided in Miami, Florida for 38 years. In 2006 she moved to Denison, Iowa, where she had since resided. During her years in Dow City she enjoyed her membership in the United Methodist Church. Elsie died Thursday evening, April 5, 2007, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 81 years, 9 months and 29 days. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Elsie Smith, and a half brother, Clarence Smith. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one daughter, Patrice and husband, Jack Addesso of Plainfield, Illinois, one son, Steven Haring and wife, Robin of Doral, Florida, five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother, Leroy Smith of San Diego, California, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Dow City, Iowa, with Pastor Judy Deweber officiating. Music for the service included Eve Vonne Muff singing "Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden" with Jeanette Kuhlman serving as organist. Pallbearers included Jacki Smith, Vicki Truitt, Bill Segebart, Gaylord Sliefert, Richard Ross and Rick Vogt. Interment was at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to the Brasel Memorial Hall for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Dow City United Methodist Women.
