Emil Michael Greder was born in Buck Grove, Iowa, April 20, 1932, the son of Emil M. and Mae Evelyn Lentz Greder. He was raised there receiving his education at Buck Grove and Denison High School. Following high school he was employed with Comstock Gravel. On June 3, 1951, Mike was united in marriage with Lois J. Fischer at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children, Ralph, Vicki, Gary and Karen. They made their home in Denison where Mike was employed as a truck driver at Crouse Cartage Company until 1954 and for Ben Huebner Trucking from 1954 until 1960. From 1960 until 1969 Mike was self employed, operating Greder Trucking, hauling live hogs to the west coast. In 1969, Mike established Mid-Continent Trucking in Denison which he owned, operated and was dedicated to until retiring in 1998. In addition to spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years, and currently enjoyed raising grey hound dogs. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where was baptized and confirmed in 1956. Mike died Monday afternoon, March 5, 2007, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 74 years, 10 month and 15 days. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Mae Greder and one sister, Pat Millward. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of over 55 years, Lois Greder of Denison, four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Ralph M. and Barbara Greder of Lake View, Iowa, and their children and grandchildren, Michelle and Kurt Johnson and their children, Tristen and Tyrel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Staci and Bryon Kniffen and their children, Logan and Whitney, of Orange City, Iowa, Vicki and Larry Szasz and their children, John and Robyn of Abilene, Texas, Gary L. and Julie Greder and their children, Rhiannon, Randi and Joel of Phoenix, Arizona and Karen and Brian Engleman and their children, Jason, Nicholas and Samantha of Hawarden, Iowa, two sisters, Donna Freeman of Canyon City, Colorado and Dorothy Slater and husband, Jim of Denison, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Music for the service included three congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me" and "Savior, Again To Your Dear Name" with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Honorary pallbearers included Jason Engleman, John Szasz, Robyn Szasz, Rhiannon Greder, Randi Greder and Joel Greder. Pallbearers were Tom Brink, Robert Kessel, Staci Kniffen, Samantha Engleman, Michelle Johnson, Byron Kniffen, Kurt Johnson and Nicholas Englman. Interment was at Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited all to join them for lunch and fellowship at Cronks in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
