He was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism July 16, 1922, at the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Audubon and confirmed in his Christian Faith there April 18, 1937. He received his education in the Audubon Schools from which he graduated with the class of 1940. Emmert worked in his father’s blacksmith shop. He attended Aero Industries Technical College in Glendale, California receiving an Airplane Craftsman Certificate.   On November 26, 1942, Emmert was united in marriage with Irene Hansen and their union was blessed with two children: Linda and Connie. Irene died from cancer in 1950. During World War II, from September of 1942, until his honorable discharge in September of 1945, Emmert proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force. He received his pilot training at Hicks Airfield, Texas, and served in the European Theater achieving the rank of Sergeant. On July 8, 1951, Emmert was united in marriage with Eleonora Clausen in Denver, Colorado. They made their home in Audubon where their union was blessed with two children: Brian and Alice. They raised their family in Audubon where Emmert started the Emmert Manufacturing Company making hog buildings and equipment, minimum tillage equipment, and the steel structure for Albert the Bull. He then started Hillcrest Forge in Audubon, a mobile welding trailer to take it for work winters in Texas and in Milford, Iowa, where he made custom designed wrought iron work until he was in his 80’s. In 1981 Emmert and Eleonora moved to Milford, Iowa, where they resided until moving to Denison in 2013. During his years in Audubon Emmert sang in church choirs from school age into his 80’s, was a member of the Lions Club and the “Audubon Aires” men’s quartet. After moving to Milford he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, enjoyed volunteering in Nursing Homes as an entertainer for three years, and took people to medical appointments in the lakes area, and participated in mission projects. A highlight in his life was when he and Eleonora went to Denmark to visit relatives and enjoy their Danish heritage. Emmert was a master welder and a man of many talents. He enjoyed story- telling; singing; reading; playing the harmonica, guitar and clarinet; painting; square dancing; fishing and houseboat building. Emmert died Friday, March 13, 2015, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 92 years, 9 months and 6 days. Emmert was preceded in death by his parents, Ejner and Sara Andersen, his first wife, Irene, two brothers: H. Leonard Andersen and Johannes Andersen and son-in-law Paul T. Hansen. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Eleonora Andersen of Denison, Iowa, four children: Linda Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, Connie and husband Ken Quirk of Brookings, South Dakota, Brian Andersen and wife Francine of Audubon, Iowa, and Alice and husband Tim Baughman of Denison, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild with another one expected in 2015; two sisters: Else Marie Aden of Muskegon, Michigan, and Eleanor and husband Edwin Hansen of Sparta, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015 at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church, Milford, Iowa with Pastor Tim Nappe officiating and Brian Andersen serving as Eulogist. Soloist was Mary Jo Jorgensen singing “Shall We Gather at The River” and the congregation sang “Amazing Grace” and “Because He Lives” with Bob Floss as organist. Honorary Pallbearers were Mark Hansen, Allan Jacobsen, Gary Koelling, Gordie Jorgensen and Craig Thilges. Those serving as Pallbearers were Clint Hansen, Joshua Bowen, Daniel Andersen, James Andersen, Aaron Baughman and Jason Smith. A luncheon was provided by Harbor of Joy Lutheran Women immediately following the services. Memorial Graveside Services and Inurnment will be held at a later date at Arlington Heights Cemetery, Audubon, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home www.pfannebecker.com was in charge of arrangements. A visitation was held from noon until time of service on Monday at the church.
