Ervin Herman Pauley
Ervin Herman Pauley, son of Bernard and Gertrude (Weise) Pauley, was born on July 21, 1929 in Panama, Iowa. He attended school in Defiance at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School where he graduated with the class of 1949.
At age of 11, Erv already found his calling as an auctioneer. He started with small farm sales and then took his talents to the local sale barns. He then met the love of his life, Thelma Lickteig, whom he married on August 25, 1954 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. Together they purchased the Denison Livestock Auction in 1977, and along with their five children, they ran the business as a family for over 43 years.
After 91 years, the angels came down from heaven to take Dad home. Such a great day for him and a sad one for us. The tears we have now will dry in time but his memory will last a life time. Dad's wishes were never to go to a home, have his shoes on til the end and his family at his side when it was time to join his beloved daughter Judy and the rest of his family and friends that went before him. He got all of his wishes on October 11, 2020 when he died at his home in Denison surrounded by his family and his wife Thelma of 66 years
He loved being an auctioneer for over 80 years. On September 12, 2020 he still sold over two hours of miscellaneous items at the age of 91 - never skipping a beat. If you didn't get your hand down fast enough he still might throw an extra bid in for you . . . HA HA - Amazing! He was proud to pass auctioneering down to his children and we knew we were taught by the best!
He also loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and watching all of us at our school and sports activities over the years. He taught us all how to work hard, stand up for ourselves and always do what we believe to be right and just. He loved watching sports, especially the Yankees, playing cards with his family and friends and catching a good western on the television.
Survivors include his wife Thelma of Denison, Iowa; his children: J.R. Pauley and his wife Andrea of Denison; Maria and her husband Jeff Mulhbauer of Manilla, Iowa; Tom Pauley and his wife Kim of Denison and John Pauley of Denison; his thirteen grandchildren; his eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends!
