Esther M. (Rogers) Jacobsen was born on May 1, 1909 in Hancock, Iowa to Edgar and Bertha (Crouch) Rogers. She lived her entire life in Hancock. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1928 and has been active in the Hancock Alumni Association, being the oldest graduate.
Esther married Alfred C. Jacobsen on February 6, 1929 in Oakland, Iowa. They raised their family on a farm east of Hancock. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Farm Bureau, and a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge. She and Alfred were members of the United Methodist Church in Hancock for over 70 years. Esther was active in the Ladies Society of the church, Secretary-Treasurer of the Federated Club and an active supporter of the AHST Booster Club. In 1992, Esther and Alfred were voted #1 Sports Fan of the Year.
Esther died at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa on January 23, 2007. She had attained the age of ninety seven years, eight months and twenty two days. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty five years, Alfred, in 1993. She is also preceded by her parents, two sisters: Evelyn Collins and Ethel Roy; and five brothers: Floyd, William, Edgar, Woodrow and Robert Rogers.
Survivors are her daughter, Bonnie M. Green and her husband, Robert, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, her son, Dennis E. Jacobsen, Sr., and his wife, Lois, of Hancock; her grandchildren: Susan Green of Council Bluffs, Sandi Burmeister and her husband, Doug, of Hancock, Keith Green and his wife, Lisa, of Council Bluffs, Dennis E. Jacobsen, Jr., and his wife Debbie, of Hancock, Steve Jacobsen and his wife, Renee, of Webster City, Iowa, Curt Jacobsen and his wife, Lisa, of Avoca, Kevin Jacobsen and his wife, Peggy, of Avoca and Darren Jacobsen of Hancock; sixteen grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Hancock or the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department.
