Ethel Lucille (Lu) Hennessey age 98, passed away on October 2, 2022.She was born in April 1924, Logan, IA, the daughter of Nels and Millie Larson Nelson. Lucille attended school in Logan, graduating in 1942. She then attended Jennie Edmunson School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, IA graduating in 1946.
In September 1946, Lucille was united in marriage to Kenneth Bauer at Avoca, IA. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children: Susan, Curtis, and William. They lived in Council Bluffs until 1954 when they moved to Denison, IA. Lucille worked with Kenneth in their Dairy Treet and Lindsay Soft Water business.
Lucille returned to her profession of nursing at Crawford County Hospital in 1970. She worked in surgery and retired in 1990. Kenneth passed away in April 1987.
Lucille was a Registered Nurse, a member of the American Red Cross, United Presbyterian Church, and past member of Federated Women’s Club. She enjoyed nursing, dancing, reading, walking, and traveling.
Lucille married Dr. John Hennessey and moved to Manilla, IA in December 1993. Lucille loved and was close to her children and grandchildren and to John’s children and grandchildren.
In 2018, Lucille moved to Brio in Johnston, IA and resided there until her death.
Lucille was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, four brothers and her husbands, Kenneth E. Bauer and John Hennessey and son Curtis E. Bauer. She is survived by daughter Susan and her husband Dean Hulsebus of Dallas Center, IA, son William Bauer and his wife Sharon of West Des Moines, IA, and daughter-in-law Kathy Bauer of Denison, IA, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, six stepchildren, and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Family.
