Evelyn Marie Kington, the daughter of Peter and Loretta (Earhart) Michels, was born at Defiance, Iowa, on September 30, 1916.
On October 27, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Myron Kington at Defiance, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Irwin, Iowa.
Evelyn was a housewife and mother and also helped with the farming. She enjoyed playing Canasta and Euchre, going out to eat with family and friends, and spending time with the grandchildren, taking them camping and fishing.
After Myron’s death in 1998, Evelyn continued to live on the farm until 2006, when she moved to Harlan, Iowa.
On March 10, 2014, Evelyn died at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, having attained the age of ninety-seven years, five months, and ten days.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Myron; her daughter Marcelene Flug; her sons-in-law Merlin Flug and Norman Ingwers; infant grandson Eugene Flug; brothers Sylvester, Jerome, Gregory, and Charles; and her sisters Bernice, Leona, and Gladys.
She is survived by her children: Larry Kington and his wife Kathy of Irwin, Iowa, Mary Ingwers of Harlan, Iowa, and Richard Michels of Chino, California; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
Ted Sieck officiated the 7:00 PM Prayer Service held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Evelyn’s family greeted friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Serving as casket bearers were Brian Ingwers, Doug Ingwers, Scott Kington, Robert Flug, David Gleim, and Scott Lange. A private burial was held in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, Iowa.
