Faye Lauree (Backhaus) Jacobsen passed away on April 13, 2022, at her home in Harlan, Iowa, on her 80th birthday. She was born in Manilla, Iowa, on April 13, 1942, to the late Clarence and Irene Backhaus. She attended Manilla High School and Commercial Extension in Omaha. Faye lived and worked in Harlan for over 55 years. On December 20, 1975, Ron Jacobsen and Faye were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan.
After graduating from high school, Faye moved to Omaha, attended Commercial Extension, and then worked at Mutual of Omaha. After spending several years in Omaha, she moved to Harlan and worked at Blue Bunny. She also had several other jobs in Harlan before she found her true love of retail. She purchased Mode-O-Day in 1979 and the fun began. She loved having the live models in the windows on Thursday nights and the Mode-O-Day float that traveled around the area for all the centennial parades. Before her retirement, she owned Yours and Mine Consignment.
Faye's pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She spent many hours watching dance practices and recitals, football games and other sports events, 4-H events and fairs. Ron and Faye traveled to many of Kevin's football games at NWMSU in Maryville and to visit Lisa in Washington, DC. She loved going to Lee's Summit to spend time with Trevor and Reece and watch them play sports. She also enjoyed going to watch her nieces and nephews play sports in the area.
Faye loved spending time with her friends. She was active with the Iowa Community Kitchen and Country Jam in Shelby. For many years Faye and Ron served as board members of the Corley Community Club in Corley, Iowa. They also spent 16 years in Harlingen, Texas, as snowbirds and were very active with the Sun Valley Acres RV Park board.
If there was a party to be planned, Faye was your gal. She loved helping with the graduations, weddings, family reunions, holiday parties or any social occasion. All you had to do was mention a party and she would have the food and decorations ready for you. There were no strangers in Faye's world, she was always willing to help anyone in need.
In addition to her parents, Faye is preceded in death by her husbands William (Bill) Kardell and Ronald Jacobsen and her sister Janet Dotzler. She is survived by children, Lisa Kardell and her husband Chris Pilzer of Alexandria, VA, and Kevin and his wife Jill Kardell of Lee's Summit, MO; grandchildren, Trevor and Reece Kardell of Lee's Summit, MO; sisters, Rachel Dolby of Irwin, Sandra Gruhn of Manilla; Special friend Zella Gwin of Salina, KS; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
