Fola was baptized in the Methodist Church at Ireton and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa.Fola attended Ireton Elementary School through eighth grade and later attended Carroll High School, graduating from Carroll High May 1948. Upon completion of her high school career, she enrolled at Iowa State Teacher’s College with a major in Home Economics and a minor in math and history. Later she attended University of Nebraska, Omaha, seeking an endorsement in Library Science.Fola’s first teaching assignment was Home Economics and some math at Moorhead High School, Moorhead, Iowa, for one year. The following year she took the teaching assignment in Home Economics at Sanborn High School. At both schools she supervised the concessions at all ball games and planned the Prom activities, especially the Prom Banquet.With a Home Economics background Fola became Home Economist in Sioux County where she worked with 4-H leaders and club members in preparing topics for 4-H members to study and prepare projects for the County Fair.In 1964 Fola met and married Don Hoemann. After her marriage, Fola returned to teaching which gave them similar schedules. She taught Home Ec at Ar-We-Va High School for several years. Later she became co-owner of Creatively Yours fabric shop where she continued teaching quilting and knitting. After selling Creatively Yours, Fola returned to teaching at Denison Junior High teaching math and worked in the Junior High Library. Later she became librarian at Schleswig and Charter Oak Community Schools until her retirement.Fola and Don were host parents to five foreign exchange students: Marcelo Pinto (Brazil), Grame Hunt (Australia), Charlotte Beyer (Denmark), and Camilo and Claudia Rodriguez (Columbia). On two different occasions they were foster parents.Fola was active as a member of Zion Lutheran Church and later Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at Zion and Our Savior. She served in all the elective offices of the Women’s Guild. The Denison zone offices held were: Secretary, Vice-President and President. She was a member of Lamplighters. Fola taught Sunday School at Zion and Our Savior for several years. She also served as chairperson of Parish Fellowship Committee for three 2-year terms.Fola loved reading, quilting, knitting, sewing, and helping people in need. Her niece and nephews, Barb, Tom and Steve, were very special as well as Don’s nieces and nephews.Most important to Fola was her faith, belief, and love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus.On January 21, 2015, Fola went to be with her Lord. She passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, Iowa having been blessed with 84 years, 2 months, and 5 days.Fola was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Owen “Jack” Booth and sister-in-law, Norma Booth.She is survived by her husband Don Hoemann of Denison, Iowa; 1 niece, 2 nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. David Loeschen and Deacon Jon Jacobsen officiating. Music for the service included three congregational hymns: “Beautiful Savior”, “Lord, Thee I Love With All My Heart”, and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and a special selection of “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” rendered by Gary Volkert and Julie Burhoop, with Mary Kuhlmann serving as organist. Honorary pallbearers included: Sandy Sharp, Becky Jacobsen, Betty Hawn, Sheila Taylor, Barb Dennis, Boni Wertz, Peg Hoemann Fauser, Jolene Pool and Sandy Johnson, Jan Jacobsen, Dee and Roger Dozark. Inurnment will be at a later date at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Following the service all were invited to join the family in the fellowship hall for a luncheon prepared and served by the Women’s Guild. Memorials have been established to the Norelius Community Library and Crawford County Hunger Fighters. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, January 23, 2015 and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
