Frances “Frankie” Eva Anastasi was born to Nick and Anna (Kloewer) Springman on December 13, 1930 in Portsmouth, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa where she remained a lifelong member. From the 1st through 8th grades she attended school at St. Mary’s Our Lady of Fatima School in Portsmouth. After 8th grade, Frankie worked for various families doing child care and house work.
Frankie married the love of her life, Raymond Bernard Anastasi, on September 14, 1948 in Portsmouth, Iowa. To this union, five children were born: Carolyn, Janice, Duane, Patricia, and Shirley. She was very proud to be a farmer’s wife, and she stayed very busy raising her children, gardening, canning food, baking and cooking. When her youngest daughter was almost done with high school, she started working in the laundry room at the Baptist Memorial Home where she stayed for ten years. After retirement, Frankie and Ray traveled to many states to see their children and grandchildren.
Frankie passed away peacefully at Elm Crest in Harlan, Iowa surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, January 5, 2025 attaining the age of 94 years and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Anna Springman; and siblings, Mary Ann Blum, Helen Miller, Nick Springman, Joseph Springman, and Donald Springman.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Anastasi of Harlan, IA; children, Carolyn Foutch of Portsmouth, IA; Janice Bonds of Harlan, IA; Duane Anastasi of Klamath Falls, OR; Patricia (Tom) Sondag of Harlan, IA; Shirley (Dan) Richards of La Vista, NE; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren + one on the way; one great-great grandchild expected in March, sister Theresa Blum of Harlan, IA; sister-in-law Arlene Springman of Portsmouth, IA.
