Frances Marie Richards Peterson was born on October 28, 1921 in Kearney, Nebraska, to Roy and Winnie (Prindle) Richards.
She graduated from high school and received her Teaching Certificate from Kearney State College. She taught school at Wood River, Nebraska. She was married to Francis L. Peterson on November 22, 1941. They farmed near Kirkman , Iowa and then in the Corley, Iowa, area until their retirement.
Frances always raised a garden and loved her cats. She was a 4-H leader and when her children were grown, she worked as a waitress in Avoca and ran the Avoca Sale Barn Caf� for many years. Farmers and townsfolk for miles around would lunch at the Sale Barn just for the pork tenderloins and homemade pies. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and active in WSCS in Harlan. She and her husband belonged to the Corley Social Club, Harlan Saddle Club, and Shelby County Farm Bureau.
Frances died on Friday, October 3, 2008, at the University Park Nursing Home in Wichita Falls, Texas, having attained the age of eighty-six years, eleven months, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, her brother Harold Richard and sister Clarabel Nielsen.
She is survived by her daughters: Fayetta and her husband Richard Fields of Glenrock, Wyoming and Kay and her husband John Gerholdt of Wichita Falls, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Guyett of Harlan, Iowa; other family members and friends.
A graveside service was held on Friday, October 10, 2008 with Pastor David Clark officiating the 10:30 AM service at the Harlan Cemetery.
