Francis Frank Schneider
March 26, 1936 — May 18, 2011
Francis Ray "Frank" Schneider was born on March 26, 1936 to Albert and Viola (Gress) Schneider in Hancock, Iowa. He attended country school at Fairview Township #1 through the eighth grade. He began working for area farmers after his schooling.
Frank entered the United States Army on March 24, 1959 and served in California. He was awarded the Sharpshooter medal before his honorable discharge in March of 1965. He worked for eleven years at Western Iowa Pork and for many years at Jacobs Tool in Harlan until his retirement in 2000.
On December 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol Schuning. Four children were born to this union: Robin, Douglas, Danny, and Don.
Frank was a family man and loved attending his children�s activities and then his grandchildren�s activities. He grew a huge garden every year and loved to give away the vegetables it produced. He was the so-called mayor of Corley, fire chief and a good neighbor.
Frank was admitted to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan where he died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, having attained the age of seventy-five years, one month, and twenty-two days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, son Don, and sisters Alberta and Dorothy.
He is survived by his daughter Robin and her husband Robert Gries of Harlan, Iowa; sons Douglas Schneider and his partner Jim St. John of West Branch, Iowa and Danny Schneider and his wife Charlene of Audubon, Iowa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Howard Schneider of Walnut, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Steve Chellew at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Military Rites were conducted in the Harlan Cemetery by the Shelby County VFW Post No. 941 and Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150. Serving as honorary casket bears were Mike Sorensen, Mike Entner, Gary Hansen, and Chad Jensen and serving as casket bearers were Kyle Jensen, Nathan Schmitz, Rick Hansen, Kevin Gries, Rod Hansen, and Bill Jensen.
