Garry William Chapman, son of William and Wilda Oletha (Davis) Chapman, was born on June 29, 1935 in Vail, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed through the United Presbyterian Church in Denison and attended Denison Community Schools where he graduated with the class of 1953.On June 1, 1958, Garry was united in marriage to Patricia Louise Solberg at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Two daughters were born to this union: Rebecca and Debra. Shortly after their marriage, Garry began his long career with the Rural Electric Co-operative where he worked for over forty years retiring as the Line Superintendent of WIPCO.As a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church, Garry was very active with church mission trips. He also served on the building committee when they built the new church in the 1960’s and served multiple terms on the church Session. He was a member of the Denison Volunteer Fire Department for fifty years where he served as president and assistant fire chief. Garry was also a strong supporter of Denison serving two terms on the Denison City Council from 2002 to 2010.Garry enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Garry and Pat later moved to Silveridge in Denison until a recent illness when Garry then made his home at Eventide. This is where he died on May 1, 2017 having attained the age of eighty-one years, ten months and two days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Marilyn Woebke and her husband Albert and Jean Sayers and her husband Jerry; and his brother Daryl Chapman and his wife Carole.He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Patricia Chapman of Denison; his daughters: Rebecca and her husband Dan Mallonee of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Debra and her husband Joe Listopad of Sterling, Virginia; grandchildren: Joseph Listopad of Groton, Connecticut; Torin Mallonee and her fiancé David Zach of Des Moines, Iowa and Patrick Listopad of Richmond, Virginia; brothers: Harold Chapman and his wife Elaine of Arion, Iowa and Jerry Chapman and his wife Carlene of Marion, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at United Presbyterian Church, Denison, Iowa with Rev. Ken Fells officiating. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty” with Ann Voggessor serving as organist. Honorary Pallbearers were the Denison Volunteer Fire Department and Pallbearers were Bob Kropf, Bob Chapman, Kurt Chapman, Bill Chapman, Stacy Chapman and Duane Zenk. Interment, with Firemen Honor Guard was at Oakland Cemetery, Denison, Iowa. Following the graveside rites and burial the family invited everyone to join them at the church for fellowship and a luncheon provided by United Presbyterian Women. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home,
