Gary Lee Gross was born on September 23, 1950 to Werner and Eulalia (Langenfeld) Gross in Harlan, Iowa, the eleventh child in a family of eighteen brothers and sisters. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling and also attended Catholic School there.
After high school, Gary and his brother Roger moved to California and started working in a lumber yard. He spent some time in Colorado before settling in Missouri working as a contractor in the construction business. He moved back to the Earling area to help care for his mother before her death in August of 1999.
Gary was very athletic and loved baseball and golf. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and doing small engine repair. He had a love for motorcycles and some of his favorite times were riding Harleys with his brothers. At one time, they each had their own Harley.
Gary cherished the time he spent with his many nieces and nephews and looked forward to the holidays when his family would all get together. He had a great sense of humor and a very giving heart and would help anyone if they had a need.
Gary was a free spirit, always looking for adventure and pursuing his dreams and aspirations. He found the Lord in his later years and found comfort and solace in Him.
Gary died on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the age of sixty-four years, eleven months, and twenty days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger and Rodney, brother-in-law Jerome “Speed” Kohles, and niece Tina (Trierweiler) Reed.
