Gary Wayne Sievers was born on March 31, 1947 to Ralph Dane and Clara Mae (Woodall) Sievers in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in Avoca and graduated from AvoHA High School.
Gary married Dorothy Butcher on February 14, 1978 at the United Church of Christ, they had one son Gary Sievers Jr.
Gary served in the United States Army and worked as a cook. When he returned home he was a heavy equipment operator and also worked as a resident counselor at REM/Leadway in Shelby, Iowa. After retiring Gary lived at Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut, Iowa, as his health changed he moved to Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa where he lived until his passing.
Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved talking to people and telling stories and jokes.
Gary died on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska having attained the age of sixty eight years, nine months and ten days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gary Sievers Jr., sister Donna Jean Sievers, brother Max Sievers, sister Sheryl Patwardhan and her husband Dr. Ramesh Patwardhan, and nephew Matthew Brei.
He is survived by his siblings - Douglas and Sherri Sievers of Des Moines, IA; Dick and Sue Sievers of Remsen, IA; Walter and Rose Sievers of Walnut, IA; Jim Sievers of Avoca, IA; Don and Suzanne Sievers of Jefferson, IA; Janelle and Richard Brei of Jackson, WI; Verla and Larry Smith of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law Mary Kay Sievers of Avoca, IA; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
