George Louis Kintner was born June 9, 1926 to Olis and Pauline (Cook) Kintner in Wilmore, Kentucky. He attended grade school there. George attended high school and graduated from Tipton High School in Tipton, Indiana. He furthered his education and received his degree in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University. He served in the US Army during the late stages of World War II as a mail clerk at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
On August 18, 1951, George was united in marriage to Carolyn Faulstich in Elwood, Indiana. Carolyn was the love of his life and he cherished her. Five children were born to this union: Mike, Pat, Lydia, Cathy and Larry.
George started his career as an agricultural engineer with Ralston Purina in St. Louis Missouri. He later brought his family to Harlan and became Vice President and Sales Manager of Harlan Manufacturing Inc., and enjoyed finishing his career with Jacobs Corporation.
George had a strong sense of civic duty. He was president of The National Council Of Industrial Management Clubs affiliated with the Y.M.C.A., a member of the Harlan City Council and a former president of the 8-Ball Flying Club and Florida Estates Corporate Board in Zepherhills.
Flying was one of his passions and he took to the skies every opportunity he could. He was proud of flying former Governor Robert Ray to his campaign stops throughout the state and was honored to be invited to attend his inauguration. Later in life when his health would not allow him to fly he joined the Shelby County R/C Club and built and flew R/C planes at “Blunder Hill”.
His other passion was golf. George loved to golf and many days would walk a round before the sun peaked over the horizon. He was proud of his low score of 33 at the Harlan Golf and Country Club and cherished his hole in one in the later years of his hobby.
George and Carolyn loved to travel and visited 49 of the 50 states in their lifetime before splitting time as “snowbirds” enjoying all of the friendships cherished both in Harlan and Florida.
George is remembered as being very generous with a strong work ethic and high morals. Inherently George always thought of others first. Just knowing him was an inspiration for many. And anyone who knew George was sure to be treated to a wonderful story from the many adventures and experiences of a life well lived.
