George Alan Slater was born at Denison, Iowa, April 15, 1935, the son of Carl and Hattie Groth Slater. He was raised at Denison and received his education in the rural schools. He spent his life in the Denison area and was employed as a farmhand for area farmers during his working years. In July of 2007 he entered the Denison Care Center where he had since resided. George died Sunday morning, July 20, 2008, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 73 years, 3 months and 5 days. Including his parents, George was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Clinton and one brother, Bob Slater. Those remaining to cherish his memory include two sons, Bill and Alan Slater of Texas, one daughter, Carla Mesenbrink of Mapleton, Iowa, two brothers, Jim and Charles Slater of Denison, two sisters, Florence Kennedy of Anaheim, California and Carol Brus of Denison, other relatives and friends. Cremation rites have been accorded and no other services are planned. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
