Gerald “Chris” William Christensen was born on March 25, 1940 to Leonard and Alice (McKeighan) Christensen in Harlan, Iowa. He attended the Harlan school system through the eighth grade.
After meeting Janet Sander on a blind date, they were united in marriage on September 6, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They became parents to three children: Tamara, Timothy, and Troy.
Chris worked as a custodian for the Harlan Community School District until his retirement in March of 2002.
Chris worked hard his entire life. He was a gentle giant with a soft heart and a strong faith. He and Janet spent countless hours constructing intricate doll houses with beautiful handmade details and was a long-time member of the First Assembly of Church in Harlan.
Chris became a resident of Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa, a year after Janet’s death in 2010. He enjoyed seeing his son Tim every day and playing cards together.
It was at Little Flower Haven that Chris died on Sunday, January 10, 2016 having attained the age of seventy-five years, nine months, and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, daughter Tamara, and brother Duane.
He is survived by his sons Timothy Christensen of Earling, Iowa and Troy Christensen and his wife Lori of Peoria, Arizona; sisters: Carolyn and her husband Kenneth Hursey of Harlan, Iowa, Cheryl Hansen of Elk Horn, Iowa, and Char and her husband John McKeagon of Beebeetown, Iowa; special grandchildren Logan Haynes and Quentin and Kaylie Briggs and their parents Jeremy and Jaime Briggs all of Harlan; other family members and many friends.
