Geraldine M. Hansen
April 7, 1924 — April 4, 2011
Geraldine Mae Hansen was born on April 7, 1924 to Ernest and Doris (Mitchell) Young in Gray, Iowa. She was baptized in the Baptist church in Fiscus, Iowa, and attended school through twelfth grade in Viola Center.
On May 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Stanley Hansen in Atlantic, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Roger, Richard, Victor, and Janice. Geraldine was an excellent seamstress and worked for Jensen�s Clothing, retiring in 1981.
She enjoyed playing her piano, especially playing hymns at home and occasionally at church. She was a good cook and baker and used real whipped cream on her pies.
Geraldine taught her children to do their best and to trust each other and God. She led by example and had a big heart, always taking care of other people. When her son Richard died as a result of a fire at his work, she continued her role as a mother, helping to take care of some of the many details that became necessary. There were no road blocks when it came to taking care of her husband of sixty-four years.
Geraldine died on Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-six years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Richard, brother Thomas, and sisters Marjorie and Janet.
She is survived by her husband Stanley Hansen of Elk Horn, Iowa; sons Roger Hansen and his wife JoAnn of Atlantic, Iowa and Victor Hansen and his wife Barbara of Shelby, North Carolina; daughter Janice and her husband Paul Scott of Coon Rapids, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
Pastor Dan Hawn officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Friday, April 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Randy Nelson, Paul Nelson, Keith Fiscus, John Gilliland, Bob Burton, and Rowly Burton. Interment was held at Merrill�s Grove Cemetery in Fiscus, Iowa
