Germain Donald, son of August and Frances (Weis) Reding, was born July 24, 1933 on a farm near Defiance, IA, being the fourth child of four. He was baptized at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. He graduated from St. Paul's High School in Defiance, where he played basketball - he was a starter that helped form the backbone of the "Defiance Five".
Germain met the love of his life, Armella Bissen, at a dance and they were united in marriage on November 21, 1955 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dunlap, IA. Together they raised four children: Cindy, Gary, Peggy and Jeff.
Germain and Armella began their married life farming in Iowa. Soon after, they moved to Omaha, NE, where Germain worked at various grocery stores. He ended his career working for John Morrell as a Sales Representative, where he excelled and received many awards.
He was involved in his children's activities and was active with the Boy Scouts - encouraging both of his sons to attain their Eagle Scout award. Family vacations were always a priority and included camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. Germain and Armella loved going to Iowa for community dances - they were magic on the dance floor! Germain loved basketball and attended/watched many a game over the years.
Germain was a dedicated servant to his parents, siblings and especially his wife Armella as she battled Parkinson's Disease for over eight years. He reached the Fourth Degree within the Knights of Columbus and gave his time and talents to the church by volunteering at multiple events.
At Ridgewood Senior Living, he became a friend to all and became known as the "go to guy"! He loved participating in social events and especially spending time in the chapel where he crafted and treated the wood of the three crosses that are on display.
Germain passed at his home in Bennington, NE, attaining the age of 91. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Armella, son Gary and siblings Coletta Duke, Irmin Reding and Rita Albracht.
Family members in mourning are children Cindy and her husband Ralph Werthmann of Savannah, GA; Peggy and her husband Dan Pinkerton of Elkhorn, NE; Jeff Reding and his wife Peggy of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Regina, Amy, Jeffrey, Jerry and Megan; great grandchildren Samuel, Gwendolyn, Anna Claire, Raylan and Laurel. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many wonderful friends.
