Gladys Almeta Morris was born on April 7, 1916, to Lee Roy and Verna (Knauss) Kingsbury in Nunda, South Dakota. She attended grade school and graduated from Tennant High School in Tennant, Iowa.
On December 1, 1934, Gladys was united in marriage to Oliver Morris at the Methodist parsonage in Rockport, Missouri. Two daughters were born to this union: Dorothy and Linda. The family farmed southwest of Corley, Iowa, until 1971 when they moved to Harlan, Iowa.
Gladys was employed in the dietary department at Myrtue Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1983.
She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlan and participated in the Builder�s Sunday School class. She loved to crochet and was a member of the Knitter�s Club. Her other hobbies included reading and cooking and she loved to spend time with and spoil her grandchildren. She became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Center in 1997 and had a circle of friends there that she enjoyed doing activities with and spending time with.
Gladys became a resident of the Park Place nursing home in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, in August of 2007, and it was there that she died on September 17, 2007, having attained the age of ninety-one years, five months, and ten days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oliver, and her brother Leo.
She is survived by her daughters Dorothy Robinson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Linda and her husband Chuck Albright of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; her grandchildren: Deborah and her husband Ron Pfieffer of Houston, Texas, Diana and her husband Rick Felthuis of Orlando, Florida, Denise and her husband Mark Bohlsen of Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa and her husband Mark DeVries of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Christopher Albright and his wife Kristina of Lenexa, Kansas; nine great-grandchildren; her sister Naomi and her husband Robert Livesey of Des Moines, Iowa; her brother Richard Kingsbury and his wife Thelma of El Dorado Hills, California; nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
A funeral service was held on Friday, September 21, 2007, with Pastor Dave Swinton officiating the 10:30 AM service at the First United Methodist Church in Harlan. Casket bearers were Donald Kingsbury, Christopher Albright, Richard Goshorn, Ron Pfiefer, Mark Bohlsen, and Rick Felthuis. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
