Gladys Marie Robinson, daughter of Sterling V. and Berma L. (Fiscus) Harris, was born January 19, 1943 on a farm south of Red Line, Shelby County, Iowa. She was baptized at Midwest Bible Camp and was a life longmember of Red Line Church of Christ. She attended grade school in Red Line Country School (Polk Township), after the 5th grade she went to Kirkman School. Gladys graduated from Irwin-Kirkman High School with the class of 1963.
On October 5, 1964, Gladys was united in marriage to Donald Lee Robinson at the Harlan Church of Christ. Three children were born to this union: Stacey, Kelly and Angela.
Throughout the years of raising her children, Gladys was also busy with selling Avon, gardening, sewing, baking, and canning. She helped with sorting seed corn from 1980 until 1998. Gladys was also a proud member of the Happy Homemaker’s Social Club. She was always willing to give blood, she donated at least eleven gallons.
Gladys found an interest in collecting Native American things, lighthouses, beanie babies, plates, tins and bears. Birdwatching, singing, and reading were some things she enjoyed doing in her pass time. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Family camping trips, her kids’ and grandkids’ activities and time spent with her family were always a priority in Gladys’ life.
Gladys passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Elm Crest Retirement Community, attaining the age of seventy-five years, six months and five days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Wilma Sorensen and Elizabeth Walling.
She has left to cherish her memory; her husband of 54 years Donald L. Robinson of Irwin, Iowa; children Stacey and her husband Todd Kelley of Harlan, Iowa; Kelly Robinson and his wife Stephanie of Harlan, Iowa; Angela Schwarte of Dubuque, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); sister Alice Nollen of Arion, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
