Glen Charles Petersen, son of John and Ethel (McNear) Petersen was born on April 30, 1936, in Kirkman, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Kirkman. Glen later enlisted into the Unites States Army on May 2, 1958, and served his country honorably until his discharge on February 13, 1961.
On April 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Louree Greiner. Two daughters, Lisa and Lila were born to this union. Glen worked at Orv Roecker Ford for many years before becoming the shop foreman at Eight-Way Express where he retired in 1981. Through the years he worked on several race cars and spent many nights at the track. In addition to racing, Glen enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.
Glen died on August 9, 2007, at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, having attained the age of seventy-one years, three months and ten days. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers Lester, Eddie and Richard, and his sister Margie Andersen.
Glen is survived by his mother, Ethel Goans of Harlan; his daughters: Lisa and her husband Jamie Hess of Spencer, Iowa, and Lila and her husband Aaron Howe of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Megan and Hayle Hess of Spencer, Iowa; his sisters: Rose and her husband Gene Henderson of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Mary Ann Plott of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his brother Sonny Goans and his wife Dixie of Kirkman, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Military Rites were held by the Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150 and the Shelby County VFW Post No. 941 at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan. Serving as casket bearers were Brian Peterson, Larry Andersen, Lyle Behrens, Gail Andersen, Sonny Goans, and Al Petersen.
