Glenn Junior Johnson

Glenn Junior Johnson, 82, of Avoca, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan, Iowa. Glenn was born on May 6, 1942, to Glenn and Alice (Wiese) Johnson in Adel, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.

He graduated from Algona Community Schools and went on to enjoy a fulfilling career as a florist and nurseryman, after attending Cliffman Floral Design School in Denver, Colorado. Glenn was united in marriage to Carrie Engen in Wesley, Iowa on February 2, 1964. In 1969, he and Carrie opened their own flower shop in Algona, Iowa called Johnson Flowers. They had their business for several years before moving to Kearney, Nebraska when he started working for Early May Garden Center until his retirement.

Glenn was passionate about gardening. He enjoyed wood carving, and fishing, hobbies that brought him great joy throughout his life. Glenn loved his family and enjoyed the time he could spend with them. One of Glenn’s favorite things was sharing coffee with his friends. His warm, kind presence and friendly nature made him beloved to all who knew him.

Glenn is survived by his son, Glenn and his wife Lori Johnson of Avoca, Iowa; 2 grandsons Nathan and wife Farren Johnson of Malcome, Iowa; Tanner and wife Samantha Johnson of Avoca, Iowa; 2 great-grandsons Wesley and Warren; his siblings, Judy Magner of Avoca, Iowa; Duane and wife Karen Willrett of Spencer, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law, Karen Willrett of Mankato, Minnesota; Nadine and husband Al Rohe of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Edith Johnson of St. Cloud, Minnesota; other family and many friends.

 He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Alice; infant son; and siblings Charles, Dean and Mary.

 Per Glenn’s request, there will be no funeral services. A graveside service will be held for family at a later date.
