Grace Catherine Madden, daughter of Joseph and Gabriella (Koesters) Weis, was born on October 21, 1941 in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling and attended school and graduated from St. Joseph�s Catholic School.
In 1960, Grace was united in marriage to Douglas Pauley, Sr. Four boys were born to this union: Doug, Jr., Todd, Jeff and Gene. Grace began working at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan and then at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa. Grace also worked several part-time and seasonal positions at Wilson Hybrids walking beans and detassling corn as well as waiting tables at the Chatter Box Caf� and the Sportsman Caf� in Avoca.
On October 19, 2001, Grace was united in marriage to Gary Madden in Harlan, Iowa. Her family grew by adding Gary�s son Chuck, his wife Teresa and their three children. Grace loved her family and rarely missed any of her grandchildren�s activities. Her grandchildren never left the house without getting some sort of gift from Grace. She was a loving and giving person who literally gave the shirt off her back. Grace loved going to garage sales and playing bingo.
Grace died at her home in Avoca on September 11, 2010 having attained the age of sixty-eight years, ten months and twenty-one days. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant son Jeff and her grandson Dustin Pauley and her sisters Marie McGill, Betty Pauley and Norma Goetz; her brother Gene and her daughter-in-law Teresa Madden.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Madden of Avoca; her sons: Doug Pauley, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Galva, Iowa; Todd Pauley and his wife Tami of Avoca; Gene Pauley and his wife Michele of Avoca and Chuck Madden, Sr. of Avoca; twenty grandchildren, five great grandchildren with another on the way; her brothers and sisters: Cletus "Bud" Weis and his wife Willie of Harlan; Elaine and her husband Laurence "Pete" Sheldon of Harlan; Robert "Bob" Weis and his wife Ruth of Defiance, Iowa; Agnes Gary of Richmond, Virginia; Alice Alexander of Earling, Iowa; Ron and his wife Rita Weis of Omaha; Joe and his wife Gladys Weis of Norfolk, Nebraska; Gary and his wife Joanne Weis of Omaha and Patty and her husband Tom Muenchrath of Defiance; sister-in-law Leona Smith of Omaha; brothers-in-law: Jack McGill of Omaha and Jerome Pauley of Earling; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in Avoca, Iowa with Father Tom Dooley officiating. Interment was held in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Gabe Pauley and Denver Pauley. Serving as casket bearers were: Chuck Madden Jr., Brent Pauley, BJ Pauley, Corey Madden, Nick Adams, Jeff Pauley, Kyle Bauerkemper and Brad Thorton.
