Gregg Jay Borkowski was born in Carroll, Iowa, April 25, 1958, the son of Earl and Margaret Vetter Borkowski. He was raised in Glidden, Wall Lake and Westside, graduating from Ar-We-Va High School with the class of 1976. He furthered his education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, before transferring to Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, from which he received his Bachelor Degree in Animal Science in 1981. In October of 1981, Gregg began his 32 year career at Farmland in Denison where he was currently group supervisor of process. On January 2, 1993, Gregg was united in marriage with Cindy I. Ellis at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. They made their home in Denison where their union was blessed with three children: Taylor, Tanner and Landon. In his leisure time Gregg enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his pride and joy, one year old grandson Kinnik. Hobbies that occupied his time included anything football, especially the Iowa State Cyclones and Pittsburgh Steelers, golfing, tractor pulls and carpenter work with his father-in-law with expertise in siding installation. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. Gregg died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 55 years, 1 month and 19 days. Gregg was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Margaret Borkowski, his mother-in-law, Sherryl Ellis and sister Lola Bolster Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Cindy Borkowski of Denison, IA; children: Taylor, Tanner and Landon Borkowski, all of Denison, IA; grandson Kinnik Borkowski of Denison, IA; sisters: Joyce O’Tool of Sac City, IA, Sheryl and husband Jim Liechti of Arcadia, IA, Jolene and husband Gary Halbur of Roselle, IA; father in-law Bill Ellis of Denison, IA; brothers in-law and sisters in-law: Rick and wife Theresa Ellis of Buck Grove, IA, Sheri Rowedder and Angie Ellis, both of Denison, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and “The six brothers I never had”, Kelly Brockman, Butch Osterland, Russ Hawley, Russ McCoid, Marty Marten and Dave Wiges, “Thanks Guys”.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. David Loeschen officiating. Music for the service included recorded selections by Taylor Borkowski, “Go Rest High On the Mountain”, “Old Rugged Cross”, “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”. Honorary pallbearers included: Tom Hawley, Bradley Linde, Bruce Mason, Larry Pieper, Mitch Munson, Sherri Grothe, Keith Kerkhoff, Lyle Podey, Rollie Kroeger, Scot Stoelk, Kim Von Glan, Michael Bieret, Jeff Bottjen, Troy Davis, Joe Steinkuehler, Jeff Sebring, Rick Brockman Steve Schmitz, Brian Brockman and Mike Stapleton with honorary pallbearers in memoriam, Rodney Koch and Vince Casey. Pallbearers were: Lisa Talbot, Leighann LaRocca, Lori O’Tool, Kim Cox, Kellie Jons, Renee Gramowski, Ross Liechti, Seth Liechti, Tedd Liechti, Benn Liechti, Michele Pudenz, Doug Halbur and Aaron Liechti. Interment was at the Westside Cemetery, Westside, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to join them at Boulders in Denison for fellowship and a luncheon provided by Farmland Foods and Staley’s Catering.
