Harold Buckley, son of Pat and Bernadine (Miller) Buckley, was born August 5, 1925 on a farm in rural Panama, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church and he attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama.
On November 18, 1948, Harold was united in marriage to Elaine Heller at St. Mary’s Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union: Darryl, Dennis and Larry. After their wedding, the couple moved to a farm south of Portsmouth living there for three years before moving to Panama to the Henry Schulte farm. They resided there for two years until purchasing the farm that has been Buckley Family Homestead since 1952. Harold was just a natural farmer. He lived and breathed his daily chores, day after day, season after season, year after year.
Harold and Elaine enjoyed leaving the Iowa winters to their home in Sun Lakes, Arizona after retiring from the farm. After Elaine died in July of 2000, Harold continued to make his home on the family farm. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. Harold also loved music and passed his passion for it down through the generations of his family.
Harold died on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa surrounded by his loving family, attaining the age of ninety-one years, four months and four days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, brother Jerry Buckley and sibling infant twins.
He is survived by his children: Darryl Buckley and his wife Cathy of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Dennis Buckley and his wife Karen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Larry Buckley of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Staci and her husband Chris White of Glendale, Arizona; Sara and her husband Richard Hollen of Avondale, Arizona; Derek Buckley and his wife Andrea of Sioux City, Iowa; Zach Buckley and his wife Chantale of Boynton Beach, Florida; great-grandchildren: Jaiya Buckley of Avondale, Arizona; Rashaud Hollen of Avondale, Arizona; Maeby Buckley of Sioux City, Iowa; Kareem Buckley of Boynton Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
