Rev. Harold Everett Peterson
Harold E. Peterson was born August 8, 1925 to Harry and Julia (Mandsager) Peterson at Badger, Iowa. He was baptized by Rev. B.A. Olson of Badger Lutheran Church.
He received his elementary education at a country school in Humboldt County, Iowa, graduating in 1939. He received his high school training at Canton Lutheran Academy in South Dakota. He graduated high school at Hillcrest Academy, Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Harold was drafted into the United States Army in 1945. His Basic Training took place at Camp Waltens, Texas, 33rd Infantry Division. He served in the 3159th Signal Service Unit in the Philippine Islands and Japan. He was discharged in November 1946.
Harold graduated from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America seminary on June 2, 1957. He served his first parish in Storla from 1957-1959. He then served Winnebago Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa from 1959-1970. For 18 years, he served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa from 1970-1988. In 1988 he retired to Bella Vista where he served as an Interim and Visitation pastor of the United Lutheran Church.
Harold died on April 14, 2015 at the age of eighty nine in Bella Vista, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Pearl Peterson, a daughter Cynthia (Peterson) Kohlscheen, grandson Brennan Boulton, sister Burnette Skogan and brother Harry Peterson, Jr.
He is survived by his son Stephen Peterson of Arvada, Colorado; three daughters, Julia Boulton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joy and her husband Britt Rendon of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Lisa and her husband Andrew Willett of Avoca, Iowa; eleven grandchildren - Alethea Kohlscheen Williams, Noah Peterson, Sierra Peterson, Jenna Peterson, Tory boulton, Lucas Boulton, Jasmine Rendon, Holly Rendon, Dylan Rendon, Russell Willett and Brent Willett; sisters Lillian (Don) Aarsvold and Mary Jo Estes, and brother Jim (Mary) Peterson, other extended family and a host of relatives and friends!
Services were held Sunday April 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Services will be in Avoca at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with a Military Rite Burial at Graceland Cemetery, in Avoca, Iowa.
