Harriet Irene Goshorn was born on July 10, 1921 to Danish immigrants Peter and Margretha (Olesen) Madsen. She attended school in Corley and Harlan.



Harriet was united in marriage to Gerald Goshorn in 1939 and raised two children: Barbara and Bill. They celebrated sixty-six years of marriage before Gerald’s death in 2005.



Because of Gerald’s work, they moved quite frequently. They lived in Illinois, Indiana, Idaho, and numerous Nebraska towns. After Gerald’s retirement, they moved to a 55-acre farm in southwest Missouri where they built, by themselves, a ranch-style house and various other farm buildings.



Harriet was blessed with many talents. She loved to sew, enjoyed photography, gardening, playing various musical instruments, hunting, fishing, and painting.



Harriet died on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Senior Suites of Urbandale having attained the age of ninety-two years, eight months, and six days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, her sister Evelyn Jensen, brother Ray Madsen, brother-in-law Wilfred Jensen, and son-in law Russell Pressey.



She is survived by her two children: Barbara Pressey of Athens, Georgia and William Goshorn and his wife Judy of Bondurant, Iowa; six grandchildren: Ann and her husband Brian Peterson, Edward “Wally” Pressey and his wife Ann, Andrew Pressey and his wife Melissa, Joseph Pressey and his wife Christine, William “Pete” Goshorn and his wife Cindy, and Matthew Pressey and his wife Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren: Emily Goshorn, Shanena Bauer, Hannah Pressey, Thomas Pressey, Madelyn Pressey, Michael Pressey, and Sophia Pressey; sister Frances and her husband Harold Ahrenholtz; sisters-in-law Marge Madsen of Fort Collins, Colorado, Darlene Goshorn of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ada Goshorn of Greenfield, Iowa; other family members and friends.



Pastor Heather Ploen officiated the graveside service at the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, Iowa, on Saturday, March 29, 2014. The family met with friends after the service at the Shelby Lutheran Church.
