Hazel J. Suhr
February 17, 1943 — July 4, 2022
Hazel Jeanette Suhr was born on February 17, 1943 in Gray, Iowa to Lawrence and Vera (Aikman) Sorensen. She attended school in Exira and graduated with the class of 1961. Hazel and her siblings lived on a farm in Gray, Iowa and after her mother died her sister, Valetta, took on the duties of raising herself and her siblings.
On June 24, 1961, Hazel was united in marriage to Charles Suhr at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walnut. Three children were born to this union: Tim, Troy, and Shawn.
Hazel held various jobs in her lifetime but was a bookkeeper and cook at Kum & Go and also worked for Charles at his Grain Elevator. She always put others before herself and loved all her kids, grandkids and babysitting for other families in the area.
On Monday, July 4, 2022, Hazel left for the eternal heavenly world having attained the age of 79 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles and brothers Larry and LeRoy; daughter-in-law Jennifer (Shaw) Suhr.
Left to cherish her memory earth side are her children Tim Suhr of Walnut, Iowa; Troy Suhr of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Shawn Ballinger of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren: Wyatt Suhr of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jesse Ballinger of Walnut, Iowa; Laura (Brendan) Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren Noah and Grayson Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; sister Valetta Jensen of Audubon, Iowa; other family and many friends.
