Helen Olive Holloway was born on September 16, 1921 to George and Olive (Kees) Hartman in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at Salem E. U. B. in Defiance, Iowa and attended school in Harlan.
On February 3, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Ora “Buck” Holloway in Jackson, Minnesota. They became parents to five children: Sharon, Pat, Sandi, Becky, and Bill.
In 1950, Helen and Buck moved from Kirkman to a farm in Missouri where they spent five years before returning to Shelby County. She worked hard her entire life, helping her husband on the farm, raising her children, working in her garden, canning and cooking. She always fed all the workers that helped on their farm.
She enjoyed watching NASCAR and stock car races and could always be counted on to help a neighbor in need. The farm life was always close to her heart, even when she became a resident of Manilla Manor.
Helen died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety-four years, four months, and twenty-four days. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Olive, husband Buck, sister Betty Campbell, and brothers James and Frank Hartman.
She is survived by her children: Sharon and her husband Ken Crouse of Panora, Iowa, Pat and her husband Steve Gawley of Irwin, Iowa, Sandi and her husband Kent Richards of Irwin, Becky and her husband Dean Muhs of Minden, Iowa, and Bill Holloway and his wife Janis of Kirkman, Iowa; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
