Helen R. Musich
August 13, 1921 — March 9, 2015
Helen Rose Musich was born on August 13, 1921 to Frank and Kuniegundae (Engel) Weihs in Portsmouth, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa and attended Country School in Panama.
On June 3, 1941, she was united in marriage to Lavern Musich at St. Boniface Church in Westphalia, Iowa where they remained members for several years. They became parents to ten children: Dennis, Yvonne, Eldred, Phillip, Mary, Lavern Jr., Thelma, Thomas, Karen, and Deborah. Besides taking care of her family, she cared for children of families and relatives in times of need, worked at the White Star Café, the Chicken Hut, and Mickel’s Restaurant, as well as Myrtue Memorial Hospital, Pauley Funeral Home, and did cake decorating for special occasions and weddings.
She loved to go bowling, play cards, spend time outdoors playing golf, tending to her flowers, gardening, and traveling. She was active in her church, the Westphalia Rosary Society, and the Harlan Gardening Angels.
Helen had been able to stay in her own home until a brief hospital stay when she died on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the age of ninety-three years, six months, and twenty-four days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lavern, daughter Karen Bradley, grandchildren: Michelle Musich, James Musich, and twins Dale and Darin Musich; daughter-in-law Cheryl, and all of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children: Dennis Musich of Harlan, Iowa, Yvonne and her husband Ken Willadsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Eldred Musich and his wife Erma of South Jordan, Utah, Phillip Musich and his wife Lora of Johnson City, Tennessee, Mary and her husband Ed Stephany of Harlan, Iowa, Lavern Jr. and his wife Patricia of Roosevelt, Utah, Thelma and her husband Tom Ely of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Thomas Musich and his wife Kathy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Deborah and her husband Richard Hastert of Harlan, Iowa; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law Randy Bradley of Council Bluffs, Iowa; other family members and friends.
