We are sad to announce the passing of Howard Andrew McMinimee, 95, of Denison. He died September 29th, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
As per Howard's request, no funeral services will be held. He will be cremated and interred at a later date by his family.
Howard was a life-long farmer with an extremely strong land ethic, as well as a rural mail carrier for many years. Active in music and athletics, he graduated from Denison High School and attended Iowa State University. As a 17-year-old Army Air Corps trainee, he was dutied to guard the B-17 crash outside Denison May 9, 1944.
Land stewardship and historical preservation were two of Howard's passions. He was a lifetime supporter of Oakland Cemetery, a lifetime member of the Iowa Numismatic Association and 40+ year member of the Crawford County Historical Society, where he was instrumental in the McHenry House and Dow House projects.
An avid hunter, wildlife habitat was an integral part of his farm management. He loved to share his land with friends and family as long as they shared their memories of the day afield.
Throughout his life, he supported many organizations promoting habitat; such as, Pheasants Forever, Izaak Walton League, National Wild Turkey Federation and others.
In lieu of donations or memorials, Howard would prefer you plant a tree, shrub or help to preserve wildlife habitat in some fashion.
He is survived by many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Herb and Nina McMinimee; brother Lt. James B. McMinimee; sister, Gladys Arlene McMinimee (Morgan); nephew, Charles D. Morgan; niece, Deborah Buhr; grand-nephew Michael Buhr, and many beloved bird dogs.
