Ida Hennings was born near Denison, Iowa, December 8, 1907, the daughter of George Washington and Martha Custis Streeter Zea. She received her education in the rural schools near their home and Denison Community Schools. On November 29, 1926, Ida was united in marriage with Alton Hennings at Holstein, Iowa, and their union was blessed with three children: Alton, Jr., Jean and Richard. They made their home briefly at Holstein before moving to Denison where she had since resided. With the exception of working at Armour’s Egg Plant and Dodd Milling during World War II, Ida spent her adult life as a homemaker caring for her family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, bingo, baking, fishing, watching television, bird watching and socializing with family and friends. She will fondly be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the Denison Baptist Church where she was baptized in 1916. Since June 10, 1999, Ida had resided at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison where her death occurred early Friday, May 6, 2011. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 103 years, 4 months and 28 days. Including her parents, George and Martha Zea, and her husband, Alton Hennings, August 15, 1986, Ida was also preceded in death by six brothers: Orrin, Lawrence, George, Everett, Raymond and Dale Zea; four sisters: Ruby Baumgarner, Nina Baumgarner, Jenny Nikoley and Lorena George; three daughters-in-law: Delores, Bernice and Patti Hennings; and one great grandson, Reggie Neppl. Those remaining to cherish her memory include three children: Alton Hennings, Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa, Jean and husband, Urban Neppl of Denison, Iowa, and Richard Hennings and wife, Lois of Springfield, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
