Ida Alvena Johnson was born on March 9, 1919 to David and Alvena (Layman) Thompson in Carson, Iowa. She went to school through the eighth grade. Times were difficult and the family needed additional income, so Ida worked for other families as their housekeeper.
Ida met Clarence Johnson at a dance and they were married on February 19, 1940, in Holton, Kansas. To this union they were blessed with a daughter Linda. Ida and Clarence made their home on a farm located north west of Avoca until 1947. Clarence’s parents retired so the couple moved to the home place in Avoca and took over the farming operation. Together they raised a lot of livestock and did custom farming. She took pride in being a wife and homemaker.
In her free time, she took pleasure in doing circle words, listening to polka music, and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her cats. Going to grandchildren’s sporting events and supporting their efforts brought her much joy.
Ida died on September 15, 2016 attaining ninety-seven years, six months, and six days. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; brothers Jim Thompson, Nelson Thompson, Valuent Thompson, Albert Thompson, Robert Thompson; and sister Mary Christensen.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Jacobsen of Avoca; granddaughters Megan Frauendorfer of Papillon, Nebraska; Cassie and her husband Jared Brockhoff of Shelby, Iowa; three great- grandchildren Tayton; Payton; Tristan; sister Ruth Frye of Seymore, Iowa; and other family and friends.
