Ida Faye Lickteig was born on July 31, 1923 to Everett and Laura (Tindle) Pitts in Knoxie, Oklahoma. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s in Greeley, Kansas. She graduated from Osawattamie, Kansas, High School with the Class of 1941.
On April 7, 1942, Ida Faye was united in marriage to Dominic Lickteig at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. They were blessed with five children: Dennis, Mary, Timothy, Alice, and Jerome.
The family lived on farms near Harlan and Battle Creek, Iowa, before buying a farm near Defiance, Iowa, in March of 1948. Ida Faye worked as a waitress when she lived in Oregon and when the children were older, she became a nurses aid in 1956. In 1981, she became a distributor for Stanley home care products. She spent the next thirty-five years making sure her customers had their specialty cleaning brushes, personal care products, and home and business cleaning supplies.
Ida Faye was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and served many years on the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Katherine, #266 of Earling, Iowa of which she had also served as President for a few years.
In 2012, she became a resident of Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa. This is where she died on Sunday, March 2, 2014, having attained the age of ninety-years, seven months, and two days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Laura Pitts, her husband Dominic Lickteig in June of 2008, and her brothers: Francis, Marion, Amos, David, and Everett Pitts.
She is survived by her children: Dennis Lickteig and his special friend Lynne Cassidy of Waterloo, Iowa, Mary and her husband Ray Mumm of Ute, Iowa, Timothy Lickteig and his wife Carol of Buck Grove, Iowa, Alice and her husband Terry Weiland of Aurora, Colorado, and Jerome Lickteig and his wife Jill of Elk Horn, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother Carl Pitts and his wife Cleta of Oskaloosa, Iowa, sister Mamie Pedrow of Garnett, Kansas; other family members and friends.
Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. Judy Rewerts accompanied vocalist Jerry Baldwin. Serving as casket bearers were Bryan Mumm, Jessie Weiland, Kelly Slechta, Doug Lickteig, Ryan Lickteig, and Scott Lickteig. Interment was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance.
