Irene M. Sharp was born on a farm at Dow City, Iowa, June 21, 1921, the daughter of Hans and Jessie Wendt Flagmann. She was raised on the farm and received her education in the Paradise Township rural school. On May 6, 1938, Irene was united in marriage with Vernon Sharp in Denison, Iowa. They made their home on the farm at Dow City until moving to Dow City in 1955. Irene spent her life as a homemaker, lovingly caring for her family. Vernon died November 20, 1994 and Irene continued to make her home in Dow City until moving to Missouri Valley in 2004 where she had since resided. In her spare time she enjoyed tending her flower gardens, working in her yard, reading and will be remembered by her family for her talent of mending. She was baptized as one of Jehovah?s Witnesses and was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Missouri Valley. Irene died Monday morning, February 11, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Mazur in Missouri Valley, Iowa. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 86 years, 7 months and 20 days. Including her parents and her husband, Irene was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Douglas and Darwin Sharp, one daughter, Barbara Floyd, one brother, Raymond Flagmann and three sisters, Olga Beam, Ella Beam and Marcella Schuetz. Those remaining to honor and cherish her memory include five children and their spouses, Duane and Pat Sharp of Longmont, Colorado; Bonnie and Jim Mazur of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Denny and Susan Sharp of Escondido, California; Becky and Jim Ahart of Dakota City, Nebraska and Darla and Richard Stoberl of Blair, Nebraska, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Private funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with Elder Dave Cox officiating. Pallbearers included grandsons, Matthew Sharp, Jim Ahart, Todd, Tyler and Travis Lampe and Mitchell Sharp. Interment was at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa.
