On a beautiful spring day on March 26, 1916 a sweet, kind, sassy and adventurous girl by the name of Izroa Maxine Durham was born to Lars and Ida (Olson) Larsen on a farm outside of Marne, Iowa. Eventually she and her family moved to Exira, Iowa where she graduated from Exira High School in 1933 and was a star member of the girls basketball team!
Izroa fell in love and married her beloved and kindred spirit LaVerne Kline in Audubon in 1934. Their son Val Jean was born in their home in Audubon, Iowa; daughter Dorothy was born in their home in Omaha, NE, and then they headed off on an adventure west to Southern California. There they operated a successful chicken farm, LaVerne worked for Lockheed aircraft Corp., Izroa sold Avon and their third son Verne was born. Izroa showed her entrepreneurial spirit by partnering with LaVerne in many business adventures including getting their brokerage license and selling Real Estate. She later worked as a bookkeeper for an auto dealer, and worked for one of the foremost polygraph technicians in Los Angeles. Izroa loved to travel and see new places covering much of the U.S., visiting Canada, Mexico and especially enjoyed Hawaii. She was a talented painter, she loved to sing, and was an avid square dancer, but spending time and taking care of her family and friends always came first.
After LaVerne passed away in 1965, Izroa continued to live in California before moving back to Elk Horn, IA in 1980 with her mother Ida. There she found her second love, Jesse Durham and married him in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1986. Izroa was a Christian in every aspect of her life and her home was always open to anyone in need.
Izroa passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, reaching the age of ninety-three years, nine months, and twenty-two days. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, LaVerne: her second husband, Jesse: her son, Val Jean Kline: her daughter Dorothy Sanborn: her great granddaughter Stephanie Nash and her brother Gleowen Larsen.
She is survived by her son Verne Kline and his wife of Elk Horn, Iowa and Pasadena, California; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Glendale Larsen of Lynnwood, Washington; other family members and many friends.
Rev. Don Hoover officiated the 10:00 AM funeral service at the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. Casket bearers were Verne Kline, Don Larson, Jeremy Christensen, and Chuck Jenniwine. Interment was held at the Oakfield Baptist Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa.
