Jack Eugene Osborn was born on July 12, 1936 to John and Marian (Olsen) Osborn on their farm in Shelby. He was one of four children. He graduated from Walnut in 1955. Jack was in the US Army from 1957-1959 where he was stationed at Scholfield Barracks in Hawaii. When he returned from the service he bought a milk route and hauled milk for Avoca Creamery. He then worked for Ballard Ford in Oakland and after that worked for Olsen Motors where he sold cars and eventually became the manager. He had a love for cars especially for his 1953 and 1963 Black Fords he owned.
Jack was united into marriage to Lois Armstrong on December 9, 1961 at the English Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. They made their home south of Avoca until 1970 when they moved to their farm east of Walnut. They were the parents of four children: Mitchell, Curtis, Michelle and Cindy. Jack and Lois started Osborn Auction in 1977. Today, Osborn Auction is still going strong where all his family is involved. He also enjoyed golfing, dancing and following his kids’ and grandkids’ many activities. His family was everything!
Lois passed away in June of 1999 after thirty-seven wonderful years of marriage. Jack then married Val Jessen Weaver in July of 2001 where they built their home south of Walnut after Jack retired from farming in 2000.
Jack passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He had attained the age of eighty-one years, eight months and thirty days.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, brothers-in-law Frank Jones and Lester Alff. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Val and his four children, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren: Mitchell (Nancy) Osborn, their children Joel (Audrey) Osborn and their sons Jack, Colin and Isaac, Kevin (Jahde) Osborn and their children Charlie and Carter, and Zach Osborn and fiancé Alexis Steffen; Curtis (Stephanie) Osborn, their children Josh, Justin, Ali and her husband Scott, Mitchell and Andrew; Michelle (John) Clayton and their children Kyle (Jill) Clayton and their daughters Evelyn and Allison, Garrett (Jenna) Clayton and Connor Clayton; Cindy (Alan) Redler and their children Whitney and Koby; step children Greg (Juli) Weaver and Teri (Kirk) Reynolds of California; two step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; sisters Darlene Jones, Dorothy Alff and Jane (Lynn) Hansen; sisters-in-law: Opal (Bill) Griffith and Cleone Jessen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
