Jacquetta Ruth “Ruth” Good Jenkins was born December 21, 1939, to Russell Arthur and Opal (Dorsey) Good in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended school in Pacific Junction, Iowa and continued her education by attending beauty school in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In the 1960's, Ruth owned her own beauty shop in Council Bluffs. Deciding to change careers Ruth moved to Republic, Missouri to be a Certified Nursing Assistant for three years and then moved to Avoca, Iowa and continued being a CNA for two years. Ruth relocated to Springfield, Missouri to be close to family and worked at Best Western until her health forced her to retire in 2004 in Harlan, Iowa. In July 2016, Ruth became a resident of Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa where she lived until her death.
In her spare time, Ruth loved puzzle books and word searches. She enjoyed watching police and reality shows, especially Hawaii Five-0, Chicago Fire, Blue Bloods, Survivor, and Big Brother; and fast and furious movies. Ruth appreciated and loved the beauty of flowers, specifically lilacs, even though she was allergic to them. She truly enjoyed shopping for hours and spending money!
Ruth was a single mother having raised her four children: Denise, Lisa, Linda, and William “Will”. She was very proud of her children and made sure they always had a roof over their head, food in their belly, and clothes on their back. Ruth was unselfish and loved unconditionally. Her family always affectingly called her “mama” or “grammy”.
Ruth died Wednesday, November 2, 2016, having attained the age of seventy-six years, ten months, and twelve days. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Maxene Hammers, Florence Parker, and Linda Christensen; brothers Howard Good and Lonnie Good.
She is survived by her children Denise and her husband Greg Brown of Witchita, Kansas; Lisa Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; Linda Beckel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and William “Will” Jenkins, Jr. and his wife Heidi of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; brother David Good of Marshfield, Missouri; nieces and nephews; and friends.
