James Lloyd Petersen, the son of Lloyd and Gladys Mickel Petersen, was born on April 23, 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Walnut and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. He attended school in Avoca and graduated from AvoHa High School in 1975. Jim then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1979 with an Accounting degree.
After graduation Jim worked for a certified public accountant in Algona, Harlan and later at various firms in Omaha. He most recently worked as a controller at St. Mary�s College in Omaha. He was united in marriage to Lori Heng Weigandt on September 17, 2001 in Healdsburg, California.
Jim lived with his wife and children in Gretna, Nebraska. He enjoyed golfing, sports, and was an avid Iowa State Fan. He loved spending time with his family and was very supportive and involved in his childrens� sports and activities. He especially liked to travel and enjoyed the many vacations taken with his family, as well as the weekend trips he shared with his wife.
Jim died on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Midland Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska having attained the age of fifty years, eleven months and twenty-seven days. He is preceded in death by his father Lloyd.
Survivors include his wife Lori; step-children: Anna and Jim Weigandt, all of Gretna, Nebraska; daughter Catelyn Petersen of Lincoln, Nebraska; mother Gladys Petersen of Walnut, Iowa; sister Jackie and her husband Dan Riessen of Avoca, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa with Pastor Dennis Reich as the clergy. Serving as casket bearers were Dan Riessen, Mark Schroder, Ron Boysen, Tom Waldron, Keith Holtz and Bruce Holtz. Interment was held in the Layton Township Cemetery, Walnut, Iowa.
