James Albert Nauman Sr. was born on November 7, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Paul and Lucille (Melz) Nauman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Minnesota where he also attended grade school. His high school years were spent at Central High School in Omaha, NE before the family moved to Shelby, Iowa where he graduated from Shelby-Tennant High School with the class of 1969. After graduation he attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and then transferred to the University of Nebraska Omaha before eventually settling down to help run the family restaurant in Avoca, Iowa.
On March 23, 1982, Jim was united in marriage to Rosann Brown in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jim spent much of his adult life running the Embers family restaurant with his parents and wife. Jim will be remembered for his skills as a businessman and chef, as well as, his many artistic talents that he leveraged at the Embers and at home creating paintings and special pumpkins or murals for his many grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed history, loved reading and played cribbage with family. He was also an avid collector of antique toys and cars and went hunting with his family.
Jim passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Avoca Specialty Center in Avoca, Iowa having attained the age of 70 years and 3 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Toni Nolde.
Survivors include his wife Rosann Nauman of Avoca, Iowa; children Shelly (Michael) Mattox of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Heather Nauman of Phoenix, Arizona; Angie (Ira) Collins of McClelland, Iowa; LeAnn (Stew) Hostetler of Scottsdale, Arizona; Jim Nauman Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska; Angela (Scott) Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska; Mike Harris of Avoca, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings Gretchen (Larry) Balster of Scottsdale, Arizona; Greg (Anne) Nauman of Taylor, South Carolina; Jane Abdallah of Des Moines, Iowa; other family and many friends.
