James Dean Schlensig was born on September 18, 1943, in Dunlap, Iowa, one of 10 children of Oscar and Lida Black Schlensig. He was raised in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School with the class of 1962.
On July 9, 1975, James was united in marriage to Linda Tiffey in Dunlap. Together they raised three children: Larry, Laura and Charlis. Most of their years were spent in Dunlap. James worked at American Protein as a Tool and Die mechanic and retired in 2005.
Through the years, James enjoyed bowling, pool, grilling, football and especially fishing. Shopping networks and casinos were also some of his favorites along with growing tomatoes. Spoiling his grandchildren was a top priority to James and the minute any of them would walk in the door, he would have a popsicle for them and the TV would be turned on to Sponge Bob. He could never give them enough sweet treats. His greatest love was for his family and friends.
James passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at his home in Denison, Iowa, attaining the age of 74 years, 9 months and 12 days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by all his siblings: Myrtle, Mary, Albert, Jesse, Betty, Ginette, Bill, Charles and Jerry.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda Schlensig of Denison, IA; children: Larry Zortman and wife Cindy of Eddyville, IA, Laura Shipman and husband Blaine of Webster City, IA, and Charlis Dimig and husband Darren of Ricketts, IA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
